“A feeling of flu and some muscle pain.” Willy Sommers could already see the storm when he suddenly felt ill. Due to his age, he belongs to the risk group anyway. The fact that he had to undergo emergency heart surgery at the beginning of this year makes him even more sensitive. That is precisely why the singer has not been outside for months without gloves and a mouth mask. But it didn’t stop the virus.
‘I had the first symptoms last weekend,’ says Sommers. ‘During my weekly rehabilitation moment (as a result of his heart surgery, ed.) I became unwell. The doctors immediately took a cardiogram and did a blood draw and covid test. So now I turn out to be infected. Fortunately, the worst symptoms have already passed. ‘
Like his colleagues, Sommers has seen dozens of performances through his nose in recent months. Since the stricter measures again this week: all concerts that Sommers had on his agenda for the next few days have already been canceled. Although he could not have played anyway due to the contamination. ‘I have now been quarantined for two weeks, together with my wife and two children,’ says Sommers.
The people around him are ready to help where necessary. ‘Several people have already offered to do the shopping for us’, it sounds.
Because the recordings of Love for music are already behind us, Sommers’ long-awaited participation in the VTM program is not jeopardized.
