The fantasy series “Willow” has barely received the green light when it loses its director. Jon M. Chu commented on this on Twitter.
At the end of October 2020, the planned “Willow“Series finally got the go-ahead from Disney. As the first major fantasy series for the streaming service Disney +, the continuation of the 1988 film is to be positioned in direct competition with productions such as Netflix’s “The Witcher” and Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings”.

But now there is a first major setback: Director Jon M. Chu has left. The 41-year-old filmmaker announced this himself on Twitter and also named the reason:
“It breaks my heart to let you all know that I’m unfortunately having to step down from directing ‘Willow’. With the production schedule being postponed due to the ongoing UK lockdowns and a baby expected in the summer (surprise!), The timing is really bad for me and my family. As you know, ‘Willow’ has been one of my favorite films since I was a kid. So I’m devastated that I won’t be able to work with some of my heroes, old and new, like Kathleen Kennedy, Ron Howard, Jonathan Kasdan, Wendy Mericle, Michelle Rejwan, as well as the amazing cast and crew can.”
But he is already looking forward to being able to finally see the finished series on Disney + like a child, which should start after the events from “Willow”:
“And boy, what an adventure they have in store for you! I can’t wait for you all to see it soon. “
