Pavel Vrba ended up on Sparta’s bench. Reserve coach Michal Horňák will lead the team for the rest of the season. According to Akuálně.cz, one of the options that could replace the former coach is the German Heiko Herrlich, who previously worked in Borussia Dortmund or Leverkusen.
Pavel Vrba was removed from the position of Sparta coach the day after the shameful 0: 3 defeat in Pilsen. At its meeting on Monday, the board of directors of the Prague club decided on this, which dealt with the poor results of the A-team in the last period.
Vrba came to Letná in February last year, when he replaced Václav Kotal and led the famous club to the final second place of the season. In the current one, he fought his way into the basic group of the European League and subsequently into the spring elimination phase of the new European Conference League. He also led the people of Prague to the finals of the home cup, but the duel on the Slovácko field was postponed to May 18 due to the unsuitable terrain.
He did not achieve the goal in the form of an attack on the title, Sparta will finish third in it, resigning to the leading duo Plzeň, Slavia.
Fifty-eight-year-old Vrba symbolically ended up defeating the team, which he trained twice in the past and won the league with him three times. In January, he extended his contract with Sparta for another year until the summer of 2023. Together with Vrba, assistant Zdeněk Bečka and goalkeeping coach Martin Ticháček left the team. On the other hand, assistant Luboš Loučka and goalkeeper coach Michal Špit remained. The coach of the second league B-team will be Petr Janoušek by the end of the season.
