Die flood season is over and the banks of the Elbe are awakening to new life. The building yard wants the City Wag them benches on the state dike and on Welcome Hoft set up again. The steel feet are bolted to the floor to ensure the stability of the three meter wide benches made of solid Douglas fir wood. Nobody at the world-famous ship greeting system would dispute that the seating was sorely missed.
Why the benches were gone
In the flood protection areas, benches must be dismantled from October 1st to March 31st so that no furniture comes loose and dykes or other protective devices can be damaged in the event of sea or ice conditions. The benches in the niches of the flood protection wall in front of the Schulau ferry house remain installed all year round.
