Willingness to donate blood remains high

Against the background that last year was again under the massive influence of the corona pandemic, he is satisfied with the balance that has now been drawn for 2021. The DRK counted a total of 1836 donations, over 400 more than in 2020 (1404 donations ). “However, we were able to hold fewer appointments in 2020,” emphasized the 1st chairman.

And yet: the result is impressive. Especially considering the blood donation dates were limited to Osterwick and Holtwick for much of the past year. The offers in Darfeld and Höven have been suspended since the beginning of the pandemic. Blood was donated again at both locations last October. “Despite these restrictions, one thing has been shown again: We can continue to rely on our loyal donors,” says Reers happily. Ultimately, the high rates would show that donating blood continues to have a high priority in the community. “1836 donations to almost 11,000 residents – some places would like to be at this value,” says Darfelder.

Nevertheless, the effects of the pandemic can also be felt in Rosendahl. These are particularly noticeable with regard to first-time donors. Although the number rose slightly to 57, Reers still sees enormous potential for improvement. “Before Corona, it was easier to get new donors through contact with the KLJBs, the youth fire brigade or even the football clubs,” reports Reers. In the future, the enormous importance of blood donation will be advertised here again.

Another thing that could have increased the inhibition threshold is the need to reserve an appointment in advance of a blood donation. “That of course makes spontaneous visits impossible. However, in times like these it is of the utmost importance not to let too many people into the restaurant at the same time in order to ensure safety, ”explains Reers.

The motto for the new year is already clear. The donor numbers should continue to be easy to read. “With a total of 21 appointments in all parts of the town, we can count on a broader range of options again,” says Reers, who sees the prospects for reaching the 2022 target not bad. After all, blood donors are urgently needed. “Accordingly, we want to maintain the willingness to donate in the community and, if possible, increase it,” explains the 1st chairman. The first opportunities to donate will already be available in the coming weeks – in the hope that the January phenomenon will be confirmed this year as well. 7 The DRK is still looking for a blood donation Lotzen in Holtwick. As is already happening in Darfeld and Osterwick, this is to receive donors on site and serve as a contact person. Interested parties can contact us at [email protected]
