In the past few years, the Lions Club Paderborn-Carolus donated the profits it made from a mulled wine stand at the Paderborn Christmas market to social projects. This source of income was no longer available in 2020 due to the corona pandemic. The high amount of the donation was therefore mainly due to the great willingness of the Lions club members to donate.
“Unfortunately, the Christmas market could not take place as usual last year. But we are all the more pleased about the donations received, ”says Peter Bee, the Lions Club’s donation officer.
Global projects of the Lions Club Paderborn-Carolus are the “temporary missionaries” of the Salzkotten Franciscans and the Africa mission projects of the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Blood in Neuenbeken.
Ulrike Molitor and her team are of course very happy about this generous donation. The money will be used to train new volunteer hospice attendants. A new course just started in January. “We are increasingly trying to win over young people for this task,” says Ulrike Molitor. There are currently 20 volunteers involved in the hospice service (www.vka-achtsamzeit.de).
“AchtsamZeit” accompanies residents in the Paderborn old people’s centers of the Association of Catholic Elderly Care Institutions in their last phase of life – a field of application of hospice work in inpatient care that has not always been adequately considered. That was the decisive factor for the Lions Club Paderborn-Carolus in the decision to support “AchtsamZeit” beyond the year 2021, emphasizes donation officer Peter Bee: “We want to use our donations to provide start-up financing for new, important projects on site, and then also continue to promote. “The donation account: Förderverein Lions Club Paderborn-Carolus, Bank for Church and Caritas (BKC), IBAN DE74 4726 0307 0015 9003 00.
