Willian has agreed in principle to return to Corinthians (Visionhaus)
Willian has told Arsenal that he is ready to leave the club and join Corinthians, according to reports in Brazil.
The 33-year-old has failed to make an impact for the Gunners after joining in a free transfer from Chelsea last year.
Arsenal made Willian one of their main winners by handing him a three-year contract worth £ 220,000 a week, but now they are looking to ditch the winger before Tuesday’s deadline.
Brazilian Corinthians have expressed interest in re-signing Willian this summer and the midfielder has the opportunity to return to the club where he began his professional career.
According to Goal Brasil, Willian has accepted the prospect of returning to Corinthians and has informed the Arsenal hierarchy of his decision.
The report claims that Willian’s salary remains a major hurdle, as the midfielder would have to accept a pay cut or Arsenal would have to pay part of the player’s salary.

Willian is understood to earn more than triple the amount Corinthians would be willing to pay.
Goal Brazil assures that both Willian and his representatives are trying to convince Arsenal to allow him to return to Corinthians and finance part of his salary.

When asked about Willian’s situation on Thursday, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: ‘We are having some talks with him and the agent.
“We are evaluating the position we are in at the moment.”
