Williamsburg’s Lorimer Street: The Deadliest Road in Brooklyn – Two Fatal Accidents in Less than 24 Hours

Lorimer Street, located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, became the “street of death.” In less than 24 hours, two people lost their lives in separate crashes.

Our reporter Yeila Lluberes, from Univision 41, went to the street where a 33-year-old pedestrian died, and a little later, a 64-year-old cyclist.

The most recent incident occurred before 8:00 a.m. this Tuesday. When he was riding his bicycle on Lorimer Street, a driver who had his car parked opened one of the doors and the cyclist hit it.

He then lost control of the bicycle, which took him to the middle of the street and another vehicle collided with him. Due to serious blows to the head, the man died.

Another man lost his life in a car crash

Around 8:00 p.m. on Monday night, one block from the other incident, but on the same street, the 33-year-old man died from a severe crash.

A Mercedes Benz car collided at full speed with an MTA bus, where the victim was traveling as a passenger.

It was learned that the driver of the Mercedes fled the scene after the crash. The Police request collaboration from the community to find the owner of the car, calling 1-888-57 (HINT).

Transportation authorities told Univision 41 that the intersection of Lorimer Street and Broadway, where both accidents occurred, is very dangerous.

A change in the structure and vehicular traffic in that area would be the solution to preserve the lives of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Many children even have to travel through that intersection, due to the schools that are nearby.
