Pontus Holmberg started the Swedish scoring party by making it 1-0 for Toronto after barely two and a half minutes in the first period.
Czech Filip Chytil responded by scoring twice for the Rangers in the second period.
Swedish Timothy Liljegren then equalized for Toronto to 2–2 in the third period, played by teammate William Nylander.
It was Nylander’s 400th point in his NHL career.
The goal took the match to extra time. There Liljegren played forward Mitchell Marner who scored and decided the game after 19 seconds.
