TAMMERFORS. Here is the happy news for Tre Kronor:
William Nylander, 26, is positive about the WC.
Now it remains for him to pass a health check and exit interview before the association can book travel for the star forward.
Tre Kronor has gotten off to a good start at this year’s Ice Hockey WC. They beat Germany 1-0 on Friday night and the defense was top class with goalkeeper Lasse Johansson at the helm.
But the attack lacks a point.
It is on it’s way.
This morning, Swedish time, William Nylander was eliminated from the Stanley Cup when Florida defeated Toronto after 4-1 in games.
William Nylander has always been positive about Tre Kronor when he had a valid NHL contract and flew in late for the WC last year. This year he also has little brother Alexander in the team, which makes the WC extra interesting and a family bonus. Add to that that Williams’ close friend Rasmus Sandin is also on the team.
Want to play
According to Sportbladet, William is positive this year as well and the situation where he only has one year left on his contract and with a possible extension pending this autumn, which causes an insurance challenge, does not bother him.
The ice hockey association does not want to talk about players who are not part of the World Cup squad, but tells about the process when a player has finished the season in North America.
– Sam Hallam, Stefan Klockare and Josef Boumedienne have had contact with the players during the season. And they have talked to them about how they see the World Cup and you take the famous first step there. When it’s a tough situation, it’s Josef who takes care of the contact and there he feels a little how long the player needs to land after the end of the season, says national team manager Anders Lundberg and continues:
– Then the player must go through a health check and have exit talks with his NHL club. It’s a little different how long it takes. But if Josef has received a positive response from the NHL player, we can prepare the release and insurance documents, and we generally take care of that when the player is on the flight over to Europe, explains Lundberg.
Strong WC result
Willian Nylander came fourth in the Swedish points league in the regular season and came second in the goal league. He has had a good playoff run with Toronto and this morning scored the all-important 2-2 goal in the third period.
In the WC, he has an insane result and with 37 points in 21 WC matches. The points average per game, 1.76, is the highest that a Swede delivered at a World Cup, if you ignore those who played individual World Cup matches in the 40s, 50s and 60s.
If Nylander gets the OK from the Maple Leafs and the doctor, Tre Kronor can form a chain with the Nylander brothers and the super talent Leo Carlsson.
