William Byron avoids pitfalls in Atlanta

William Byron certainly produced one of his strongest runs to win. Expectations were high for this fifth round of the season, contested on a brand new asphalt oval. Atlanta Motor Speedway hosted its first Nascar race in July 1960, when it was one of the first asphalt tracks in the series. This stage in Georgia has since become an unmissable event which even hosted, from 1987 to 2000, the last races of a season which was then contested without playoffs. Its 28° turns, featuring the steepest bank of the season behind the superspeedways of Daytona and Talladega, make it the fastest 1.5 mile circuit (1.54 miles or 2.48 km to be exact) in the season, and an enclosure capable of hosting a 500-mile race within a reasonable timeframe… Finally in theory, since with 4 hours of racing this Sunday, we came close to breaking records.
