It is not clear whether the couple will also visit William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, before leaving for Norfolk. The 95-year-old Elizabeth does not spend Christmas alone anyway: she is visited by her son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla.
Earlier it became clear that Elizabeth will not travel to her Sandringham estate for Christmas, as she traditionally does every year. Due to the rapid spread of the omikron variant of the coronavirus, the queen will remain at Windsor Castle and will receive her family there. Her daughter Princess Anne will probably not be there. Her husband Timothy Laurence tested positive for the corona virus, after which the princess was quarantined at home. It is not yet clear who else will celebrate Christmas with the Queen.
Last year, Elizabeth also chose to stay at Windsor and spend the holidays quietly with her husband Prince Philip. It will be her first Christmas without Philip this year, who passed away in April this year.
