Fast catching up
Willem II started the match with concentration but let FC Utrecht make the play. In the opening minutes this immediately led to a chance for Ron Jans’ team. Didillon-Hödl needed a save and the help of his defenders to prevent an early deficit. Not much later Utrecht sought the attack again and thanks to a good through pass and a tight cross over the ground that was worked into the own goal by Raffael Behounek, FC Utrecht took the lead in the eleventh minute.
Leading role for Sandra
Halfway through the first half, Willem II got a bit more grip on the game. The ball moved more quickly from foot to foot, but there were still no chances. Until Willem II equalized in the 29th minute with a goal from Cisse Sandra. Thanks to strong work by Rúnar Sigurgeirsson, who passed the ball well, Sandra was able to shoot freely from the edge of the sixteen and thus score his second goal of the season.
A few minutes after the equalizer, FC Utrecht took the lead again. A cross from El Karouani ended up on Sandra’s arm. Noah Ohio coolly shot the ball into the right corner from eleven meters. After commenting on referee Joey Kooij, trainer Peter Maes was sent to the stands. Immediately afterwards, Cisse Sandra, after chasing the Utrecht defense well, got the chance to shoot Willem II level. One on one with goalkeeper Barkas, the attacker kept his cool and shot the ball into the net in a controlled manner.
