Will Timo Werner return to the Bundesliga?

So far, Timo Werner has not found happiness at Chelsea. There should also be tensions with coach Thomas Tuchel. A change seems possible.

The World Cup in Qatar begins in mid-November – and Timo Werner wants to be there. The chances of a place in the squad are high, but it is still unclear what role the 26-year-old would play. Both a place in the starting eleven and on the bench is possible. The coming months will be decisive for this. Werner must recommend himself with strong performances, national coach Hansi Flick had demanded that. He needs a lot of assignments for that – but those are a bit on the brink at his club Chelsea FC.

Because Werner’s performance in England has remained below what the club had hoped for with its 53 million euro investment in 2020. Werner has 10 goals in 56 league games. Despite everything, the international remains self-confident. He proved that in preparation: “I could be happy anywhere. It’s clear that I want and should play more, firstly to be in good shape for the World Cup and secondly to have a chance at the World Cup to play.”

A statement that irritated his coach. Speaking on Chelsea’s USA tour, Thomas Tuchel said: “I’m surprised I would be very happy as a young guy with a Chelsea contract. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet.” At the weekend he added: “Timo hasn’t spoken to me about it. At the moment I think he wants to continue on his way at Chelsea. He also has something to prove.”
