A ceasefire in Russia’s war against Ukraine can be expected in 2023 and even in the middle of the year, according to a former German army and NATO general, BTA reported, citing DPA.
“I expect it to happen in the summer when both sides say things are going nowhere,” Hans-Lothar Domrose told German media group Funke. According to him, the most likely time for such a standoff to occur is between February and May.
“This will be the time to negotiate a ceasefire,” said Domroze, who held senior positions in international forces in Afghanistan and later in NATO command structures in Europe.
However, he stressed that this does not mean peace. “A ceasefire means a ceasefire. Negotiations are likely to take a long time, a mediator is needed,” he said, pointing to the UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres
Antonio Guterres is a Portuguese politician. Guterres was born in Lisbon on April 30, 1949 as a religiousTurkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan or Indian President Narendra Modi as possible candidates to lead the process.
The only thing left is a negotiated solution that is acceptable to both sides, “even if Putin actually would like to have all of Ukraine and Zelensky would like to liberate all of Ukraine”. A possible solution, Domroze sees, is for the Ukrainian president to abandon the demand for the immediate return of territories such as Crimea to Ukraine and accept that this happens after a transitional period.
