For years, Samsung has followed a dual smartphone launch strategy. The brand launches the Galaxy S series in the first quarter and the Galaxy Note series in the third quarter of the year, with the S range aiming for mass sales to the “common consumer”, while the Galaxy Note range offers a more business aspect, with the help from S Pen.
This year, however, the South Korean company will refrain from releasing the Galaxy Note 21. Many rumors claimed that the Galaxy Note series would be discontinued forever, but it appears that the Samsung is not finished yet. The idea seemed to replace the Galaxy Note range by Galaxy Fold, keeping two releases per year, but it seems that the manufacturer changed its mind.
According to a new set of rumors, Samsung’s little experiment in making the Galaxy S21 Ultra compatible with the S Pen didn’t work as well as expected. The company expected fans of the Galaxy Note series to simply purchase the Galaxy S21 Ultra along with an S Pen and an S Pen compatible case. As it turns out, S Pen sales for the Galaxy S21 Ultra have been extremely low. Therefore, the company may be considering bringing back the Galaxy Note series in 2022.
Samsung has already confirmed that it would release a new Galaxy Note series smartphone next year, but now we can know one of the reasons why it is not quite ready to discontinue the Galaxy Note series. It’s still unclear whether the company will call the next device in the Galaxy Note series the Galaxy Note 21 or Galaxy Note 22.
Long-time users of the Galaxy Note series say that simply adding an optional S Pen to the Galaxy S series isn’t enough, as the phone doesn’t have a built-in area to store the pen. And the S Pen case makes the phone wider than it should for comfortable use. Although there are rumors that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is compatible with the S Pen, many consumers want the experience with the S Pen having to spend a fortune on expensive equipment such as folding, not to mention the size that these devices “offer” to consumers.
So it looks like it won’t be the end of the Galaxy Note, although the have buried. We’ll see what the future holds.
