Will the retirement age increase? “Otherwise, pensions will fall”

The increase in retirement age is the common name for raising the retirement age. It is currently 60 for women and 65 for men with proven work experience of 20 years for women and 25 years for men.

In Western European countries, the retirement age is much higher, averaging 67. In Poland, however, an attempt to raise the retirement age by the Civic Platform did not end well, and the Law and Justice government lowered the retirement age after winning the elections. What will happen now?

Will there be an increase in the retirement age?

Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz (Poland 2050) is sounding the alarm – if we do not take appropriate actions, future pensions may amount to only 23% of the last salary.

“Fifteen years ago, four people worked for every person of retirement age, now it’s less than three, and in 2050 it will be less than two. These are hard data,” emphasized Minister Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz in an interview with Polsat News. In her opinion, it is necessary to start a debate on the future of the pension system and take appropriate actions.

“I have a high opinion of Poles and I think that the politics of handing out candy is not what they expect from politicians. Poles expect a serious conversation on serious topics. This means that you can’t always be beautiful, healthy and happy, because there is always a cost, you have to take something away to add something somewhere,” the minister added.
