How to continue to evolve the entry-level iPad without going up in price and without venturing on the flowerbeds of the iPad Air? For its iPad 9 released in September 2021, Apple has improved several components with a newer processor, the addition of True Tone technology at the screen level, a better front camera and doubled storage. Nothing spectacular, but enough for a solid update while the price hasn’t budged.
What will be the program for the iPad 10? According to analyst Ross Young for Display Supply Chain ConsultantsApple would work on a model equipped with a screen “slightly bigger” than the 10.2″ panel currently used. It is possible that Apple will use a 10.5″ panel as on the iPad Pro of 2017: by trimming a little on the margins around the screen, this tablet was exactly the same dimensions as the iPad 9 today. This small gain of 0.3 “would go from 2,160 x 1,620 pixels to 2,224 x 1,668 pixels. To go beyond without increasing the size of the tablet, it would be necessary to switch to the all-screen design of the tablet. ‘iPad Air but this would result in a substantial increase in prices, which is not desirable on this entry-level model.
This would of course not be the only novelty. As with each new generation, the iPad 10 should logically adopt a more recent chip for more power and durability: we could thus switch from the Apple A13 chip to the Apple A14 chip. For the rest, we can hope for the integration of a 5G modem for the cellular versions, and why not a better camera on the back, but this is only a hypothesis at this stage.
Regarding the calendar, it is possible that the iPad 10 will be presented around the start of the school year in September as for the two previous generations. Note however that it has already happened that Apple waits a little over a year between two generations. In the meantime, be aware that it is quite rare for the iPad 9 to be on sale, unlike other models: you can find Apple’s entry-level tablet on our price comparison, but don’t expect to miracles at resellers.
