Will the coronavirus have the skin of the Mobile World Congress?

Several prominent companies canceled or reduced their presence at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Scheduled from February 24 to 27, the largest trade show in the mobile phone industry is facing more and more exhibitor cancellations for fear of the epidemic of the new coronavirus.

Ericsson and Nvidia, then Amazon, Sony and NTT followed the example of LG, the first group to have canceled its arrival. According to different media, Samsung, ZTE and Huawei should be there, but with a reduced delegation.

Important preventive measures

The GSMA has said that to make it happy, there is no question of canceling the event. In a press release, the company in charge of the organization confirmed that certain large exhibitors have decided not to come. Important measures are taken to avoid any health crisis linked to the virus which, beyond the human victims, has a serious economic impact: the supply of IT equipment is particularly under pressure. The GSMA has for example introduced the instruction not to shake hands and planned increased disinfection operations. Access to the lounge is also prohibited for all travelers from Hubei Province, the epicenter of the epidemic.
