Will the Bundesliga play in front of spectators soon?

The general approval of events under certain conditions presented on Monday also applies to sporting events, as the Ministry of Health confirmed yesterday. This would also affect games in the Bundesliga, which will resume play on Tuesday.

The current concept also includes an agreement that will initially be played without a spectator. “At a joint appointment with those responsible for the Austrian football Bundesliga at the beginning of next week, we will discuss whether the Bundesliga model project should also be adapted to the new opening steps for events,” said Health Minister Rudolf Anschober.

As of May 29, 100 visitors will be admitted, as of July 1, there will be 500 visitors for outdoor events relevant to football, and from August 1, up to 750 or 1,250 visitors if the event authority issues a permit.

According to the plan, the Bundesliga is holding part of the penultimate and last round at the beginning of July, as well as the play-off afterwards for a Europa League qualifying start position. “Basically, we hope that we will be able to play in front of an audience in the stadium again as soon as possible,” said league board member Christian Ebenbauer.
