“It is very important to talk about alopecia today (the disease that Pinket Smith suffers from and that causes hair loss, ed.)”, said the actress at the beginning of the latest episode of her podcast ‘Red Table Talk’. Comedian Chris Rock joked about Pinkett Smith’s haircut during the Oscar ceremony, after which her husband walked on stage and punched him.

“Considering what I’ve been through with my health, and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have sent me their stories,” said Pinkett Smith. I’m using this moment to give the alopecia family a chance to talk about what it feels like to have that condition, and educate people about what alopecia really is.”

“On that night at the Oscars, my deepest hope is that those two intelligent, capable men will have a chance to talk this out, heal, and reconcile. Given the state of the world, we need them both. And we all really need each other more than ever. Until then, Will and I will continue to do what we’ve been doing for the past 28 years, which is figuring out what’s going on with that thing we call living together.”

Of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the association that organizes the Oscars, wanted to suspend Smith’s membership for 10 years after the incident, but the actor himself resigned before that could happen. Rock hasn’t spoken publicly about the incident, except for a few short jokes during performances.
