In the video, the unsuspecting Jabari, who auditioned on the advice of his father, is waiting for what is to come when suddenly Will Smith appears on the screen. He lets him know that he is honored to congratulate him and then: “You have the role of Will in Bel-Air.” The young actor puts his hands to his face and says he is ready for it. “This is a dream come true,” says Jabari.

More than 30 years ago, the American sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ marked the breakthrough for the then unknown Will Smith. The actor played a fictional version of himself; a troubled teenager who had to live with his wealthy aunt and uncle in the upscale Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles for a while. The sitcom continued to be shown on TV for six seasons. The series was also broadcast in the Netherlands.

Streaming service Peacock, part of the American TV channel NBC, recently announced a reboot. This in response to an online video that went viral in 2019 in which a fan of ‘The Fresh Prince’ imagines what the series would look like in this modern day. It is not yet known whether and when the remake can be seen in Belgium.
