Many have wondered why Smith was allowed to remain in the front row during the Oscars after hitting Chris Rock in the face when he told a joke about Smith’s wife. Now the news agency AP writes that an attempt was made to remove the actor from the audience.
– The incidents took place in a way we could not have foreseen, the academy says according to AP, and is further quoted as saying – While we would like to clarify that Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also acknowledge that we could have handled the situation in a another way.
The academy’s board met Wednesday to consider a reaction against Smith for violating the group’s rules of conduct. The group says that Smith will have the opportunity to respond in writing before the board meets again on 18 April. The reaction can be redundancy, deportation or other sanctions.
The Oscar academy has already previously condemned Smith’s behavior, but used even stronger words about the incident on Wednesday, writes AP.
Will Smith has apologized for the incident to everyone involved, and Chris Rock has said he does not want to go to review the incident.
