“If you live together for a long time, you lose the ability to see the other person’s subtle beauty.”
Will Smith says he was sobered by his wife’s memoir about their separation
“If you live together for a long time, you lose the ability to see the other person’s subtle beauty.”
(Los Angeles = Yonhap News) Correspondent Mina Lim = Hollywood actor Will Smith (55) opened up for the first time about the memoir of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith (52), who confessed that they were separated.
According to the New York Times (NYT), an American daily newspaper, on the 16th (local time), Will Smith said in an email to the newspaper, “My wife’s memoir woke me up.”
He saw that Pinkett Smith had lived a life on the edge more than he had ever known, and that she was more resilient, smarter, and more compassionate than he had realized.
He said, “When you spend more than half of your life with someone, you develop a kind of emotional blindness, and it is all too easy to lose the sensitivity to feel their hidden nuances and subtle beauty.”
He also posted a video showing his usual playful side on Instagram on the 15th.
In the video, he appears wearing a thick jumper and lying on a seat on a ship sailing on the ocean, and explains in narration, “Fun fact about me. I can nap almost anywhere.” He also appeared happy and smiling brightly on the deck of the boat with the sea in the background.
Previously, his wife, Pinkett Smith, appeared on a broadcast on the 13th ahead of the publication of her memoir and became a hot topic by saying, “I have been separated from my husband since 2016, and (for the next 7 years) I have been living a completely separate life.”
American media outlets noted that the two were not actually married when Will Smith caused a stir by slapping comedian Chris Rock in the face for joking about his wife at the Oscars in March of last year, and published an interview with Pinkett Smith. The contents of the memoir were heavily reported.
Pinkett Smith wrote in her memoir that when Will Smith went up on stage and slapped Rock, he thought it was a pre-arranged skit and not a real situation, and that he was not sure why Smith was so angry.
However, Pinkett Smith said that he was very heartbroken when Rock mocked his hair loss, and criticized Rock for making fun of hair loss, a disease, and the awards ceremony organizers for neglecting it.
In an interview with the NYT, he said that after his 40th birthday in 2011, he fell into deep depression and despair and contemplated suicide, but later found a way to heal and lived a life similar to a nun by reading the Hindu scriptures ‘Bhagavad Gita’ and the Bible every day and meditating. He said he was living.
