Will Smith resigned from the Oscar-winning body five days after he attacked comedian Chris Rock during the awards ceremony.
The actor said that his actions, which overshadowed the most glamorous night in Hollywood, were “shocking, painful and unforgivable.”
“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and relatives, all present in the hall, as well as the world audience that watched the ceremony at home. I handed over the trust to the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of the opportunity to celebrate and be glorified for their outstanding work. “My heart is broken,” Smith said.
