He went from notable rapper to television figure, from there to movie superstar … and now, to round out his career, he could make the leap into politics. During a chat with the director Jon Favreau, Will Smithhas declared that it is considering making the leap to the institutions after having become aware as a result of the movement Black Lives Matter.
“It is clear that I am going to do my part, either artistically as up to now or, at some point, throwing myself onto the political stage,” said the actor.
The conversation between Smith and Favreau took place in Pod Save America (via Entertainment Weekly), with Smith presenting his series Amend: The Fight for America. It is a documentary that explores the struggle for civil rights in the United States in light of the Fourteenth Amendment, which declared equality among its citizens after the Civil War.
Having explored the subject thoroughly, Smith is confident that a better education can make things better in his country. “Ignorance can be corrected. Evil is a much more difficult problem,” he explained. “Luckily, ignorance is much more common than outright evil.”
Also, Smith declares to feel “optimistic and hopeful” with the consequences of the Black Lives Matter. “I believe in understanding between people. I believe in the possibility of harmony.”
Does this mean that Will Smith will one day run for the White House? Will we see him competing in an election with Dwayne Johnson, without going further? For now, he is the first to declare that he is in no hurry before entering that mess. “For now, what I’m going to do is clean my office,” he joked to say goodbye.
