Will Russia attack Lithuania – the President’s response

The leader said that Russia would continue to intimidate and threaten, but would not go for a military invasion.

“I don’t think we will deal with a military invasion because we are a member of NATO and are protected by Article 5, which effectively provides collective protection. But of course, they will lie and threaten, creating additional tension in the region,” he said.

According to him, Lithuania will continue to support anti-Russian sanctions and comply with EU decisions, but expects new recommendations from the European Commission on transit.

Nausėda also confirmed that there are NATO troops on the territory of Lithuania, namely a group of 11 countries led by Germany.

“I would like to emphasize the significance of my recent joint communiqué with Chancellor Scholz, during which Germany announced a commitment to increase its military presence in Lithuania to brigade level,” the president added.
