The Banque Eric Sturdza Geneva Open took place at the Tennis Club de Genève in Parc des Eaux-Vives, the oldest and largest tennis club in Switzerland, and returned to the ATP calendar in 2015. Previous editions took place between 1980 and 1991.
Björn Borg, Mats Wilander and Thomas Muster all won the title there before this absence, and it was Thomaz Bellucci from Brazil who won the first event on their return in 2015. Home star Stan Wawrinka won the trophy in 2016 and 2017, followed by Marton Fucsovics and Alexander Zverev.
The German saved two match points against Nicolas Jarry to prevail in an epic final and take the only title of the season. The Geneva Open had to be canceled in 2020 like the entire European Sand Tour due to the pandemic.

The Geneva Open organizers hope to have Roger Federer this year
So the organizers are hoping for some big names for the sixth edition, including the 20-time major champion and home star Roger Federer.
Federer struggled with a knee injury and had to undergo two operations in 2020. He skipped most of the season and made an eagerly anticipated return in Doha in March. Roger played two games and decided to rest and skip Dubai, stay home and not share any news about the Sand Tour.
Rogers fans hope to see their favorite player in Madrid and Paris and, following the recent calendar changes, have a chance to play in Geneva. The organizers said they had been in contact with Roger throughout all of the editions and would like to see him play there next month.
Roger competed in the Laver Cup in Geneva two years ago and led Team Europe to their third title in a row. “Roland Garros’ delay could convince Roger Federer to take a trip to Geneva and attend the home event in the city he loves so much.
