IFK Gothenburg did not have a single shot against Beijing’s goal in the first half at Ullevi where the guests got two balls into the net. First through Victor Agardius’ goal in the 20th minute, then Carl Björk made it 0-2 14 minutes later.
Blåvitt played and was the better team in the second half. But something more than Marcus Berg’s reduction in the 56th minute did not come. After the final signal, parts of the home crowd took the opportunity to boast the team, while others chose to applaud IFK Gothenburg off the pitch.
– The requirements for a club like Blåvitt are like that. We have experienced disappointed supporters before, and that is included, says coach Mikael Stahre and continues:
–
– It is clear that it is always boring. At the same time, we must respect those who wake up every morning and see themselves as blue and white supporters in the mirror. It is included. Neither players nor leaders work for free – somewhere we have to deal with that press and those things.
–
Blåvitt’s players also understand the frustration after the team’s second straight loss.
– There is a frustration. You should not go too many years back in time, but it builds up of course, and then it becomes more fragile. They are disappointed and so are we, says Mattias Bjärsmyr.
Team captain Marcus Berg:
– It also has to do with demands, people expect us to win – we do. It is clear that there are heavy heads immediately after the match from both fans and players, it is normal and we understand that. At the same time, we as players and teams can not be affected so much from the outside. We must be strong and believe in what we do. We can not dig ourselves in and we will not get anything for free. It’s just to keep working.
Berg responds to how the reaction from the player group was after being booed:
– It is not the case that we sit and have a crisis conversation about how the situation is and what happens after a match. I think that everyone who plays in Blåvitt knows what the pressure is, and we place high demands on each other within the group. People want to see us take three points and we want to do better. That’s all I can say.
IFK Gothenburg is ninth in the table and is after the loss five points behind IFK Norrköping. Tough matches against Hammarby and Malmö FF await next.
How do you see the table mode?
– We have been in a situation more or less all season. It’s not like looking up page 377 on teletext and then looking at the table tonight. But we know where we are somewhere. It’s just about going to the next match. What do you do about it now? Nothing. Just prepare and win the next match. We were not that damn far away from it tonight, says Mikael Stahre.
