He was planned as one of the leading players at SV Werder Bremen after relegation, but Kevin Möhwald has only played a minor role so far. Soon the 28-year-old might even no longer appear. The midfielder is reportedly considering a move. According to information from our Deichstube, he should also be on Eintracht Frankfurt’s list. The first division team is looking for an addition to midfield because captain Sebastian Rode will be out for several weeks due to a knee injury. Möhwald might be a cheap alternative because his contract with Werder only runs for one year. The online portal transfermarkt.de estimates the Bremen’s market value at three million euros, but the transfer fee should be significantly lower.
“You can never say that 100 percent. But I definitely feel like staying with Werder and helping to boost the rebuilding, ”said Möhwald at the beginning of July at the training camp in Zell am Ziller. When asked what he would do if a first division team knocked on the knock, the midfielder replied: “I feel very comfortable in Bremen, and it should be very, very perfect for me to waver at all.” Eintracht Frankfurt should be such an offer, Möhwald could even play in the Europa League with the Hessians.
At Werder, however, his situation is surprisingly difficult. The ex-Nuremberg was considered a hot candidate for the election of the new captain, but did not even make it into the five-person team council. Among the teammates, who under coach Markus Anfang were allowed to choose the captain and his deputy, Möhwald apparently does not have as high a standing as was previously suspected from the outside.
It is not sporty for Möhwald either. At the season opener against Hannover 96, he was absent from his private environment due to a voluntary quarantine after a corona case. A week later he hobbled in stoppage time in Düsseldorf just 13 minutes after being substituted on. The ankle injury wasn’t that bad, but Möhwald still missed the last two games. He should be back on Sunday against Rostock, if he is still a green and white. Werder would probably let him go with a suitable offer, but would then have to get a replacement. Time is of the essence, however, the transfer window is only open for just under a week.
