Microsoft bought a nearly six-hectare plot of land from Radovan Vítek’s CPI in Klíčov, Prague, for 1.5 billion crowns, informed the Message List. The area is a short walk from the Letňany metro station. This is the first real estate investment that Microsoft has made in the Czech Republic.

The company does not currently comment on what it wants to do with the land. He only says that he intends to continue to help the Czech Republic digitize through cloud services.

This could mean that Redmond has set in motion a project of a speculated data center for some time. In particular, it could offer cloud services such as Azure or Office 365 (Microsoft 365) with local data storage to the state and other key customers.

As we reported on Lupaformer Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (YES) and the head of two state-owned IT companies Vladimir Dzurilla signed a cooperation document with Microsoft. Among other things, Microsoft stated that it would examine the possibility of building a data center.

Microsoft is very interested in the state cloud project. Among the dozens of offers for the supply of cloud services in the public part of the state cloud, the offers built on Azure dominate. This is also thanks to the long-established Czech branch of Microsoft and an extensive network of partners. The pilot operation of the state part of the state cloud also started on technologies from Redmond.

Deputy Prime Minister for Digitization Ivan Bartoš and his deputy Ondřej Profant now the procedures in the cloud and digitization continue. They are in the game, among other things The National Data Center and the National Digital Agency.

The fact that Microsoft could build a data center in the Czech Republic is also recorded by similar steps in Poland. There, the company, in cooperation with the state, built the first such object in the region. The investment is a billion dollars.

In addition to sales and support, Microsoft also operates a development center in the Czech Republic. In addition to tools like Teams, Dynamics or Skype, this focuses on Azure.
