Will Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets make their debuts against Cruz Azul? Inter Miami CF manager Tata Martino has now given an update.
WHAT HAPPENED? Former Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets were unveiled by Inter Miami last Sunday and are set to make their debuts in Friday’s League Cup against Cruz Azul. Coach Gerardo Martino admitted the two superstars are fit but left open whether they will be in the starting XI.
WHAT WAS SAID? “From what I’ve seen so far, they’re fit and it’s likely they can be there on Friday,” said Martino. “We have yet to decide whether they will be in the starting XI or come on at half-time, but the way I see it, both Leo and Busi can do it [am Freitag] play,” he told ESPN Soccer 12.
WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? And Martino is sure Messi will shine in MLS too.
“What hasn’t changed is his desire to keep fighting and winning. I think that’s a very important quality that Leo has as a footballer. His constant desire to duel and win. I think that’s the Winning the World Cup took a huge burden off his shoulders.”
“But someone I admire a lot told me that he comes into MLS with an empty suitcase but without all the pressure that he had at Barcelona in 2010/11 or the pressure from the national team. I think I will find a very competitive version of him because he feels the need to win in this jersey because he hasn’t won here before,” he added.
