Will Juventus terminate Paul Pogba’s contract? A club leader lifts the veil

Rumors of a termination of Paul Pogba’s contract have sprung up in Italy in recent days, but a Juve leader has stepped up.

Since returning to the club for free last summer, Pogba’s dream second spell at Juventus very quickly turned into a nightmare for all parties involved. He hasn’t played for the Old Lady since pre-season, with injuries continually postponing his official debut for the Bianconeri and leaving him unavailable.

‘Pogba is a long-term signing’

With fans understandably frustrated, rumors have surfaced in Italy suggesting the French midfielder could have his contract terminated by Juventus. The Italian club’s director of football, Francesco Calvo, has spoken out on the matter, insisting Paul Pogba retains the Turin club’s full support.

In an interview with DAZN, Calvo said: “Rumors are rumours, we’ve heard them but I categorically deny them. Paul is a long-term signing: in injury management there can be unexpected events. There has been a slowdown, but it’s trains hard every day. We can’t wait to see him confident on the pitch to give his contribution.”

Another less serious injury than expected

Injuries, and therefore inconstancy, quickly became the epitome of Pogba’s second stint at Manchester United after leaving Juve to join the Red Devils for a then-world-record fee of nearly €100m in 2016. The French midfielder was constantly plagued by fitness issues and was allowed to leave for free last summer, opening the door to a return to Italy.

However, Paul Pogba was unlucky and injured his knee in July and was sidelined for three months, having not played in an official match since April. He was fit enough to eventually make the bench in Juve’s 2-0 loss at Monza on January 29, but failed to make his debut and has since been mired in another injury.

It looks like the 29-year-old’s latest injury isn’t as bad as feared, so Juve will be keen to get Pogba back on the pitch as soon as possible without causing any further problems. Massimiliano Allegri’s side are 10th in Serie A with just 26 points after being hit with a 15-point deduction after being found guilty of financial irregularities.
