Student loan debt in the United States is $ 1.71 trillion, making it the second largest consumer debt after mortgages. Lawmakers have called for some, if not all, of the debt to be canceled, but that has yet to happen.
President Joe Biden has run on forgiving $ 10,000 in student loan debt, but some members of Congress want him to forgive $ 50,000 per student. What is Biden doing so far for student loans?
During his presidential campaign, Biden called for remission of $ 10,000 of federal debt on a student loan per person. He also introduced additional plans for students in the Biden plan for education beyond high school, such as free tuition and more money for federal grants.
