Most players think that GTA 6 will be designed primarily for current generation consoles. With the continued dearth of consoles, many are wondering about the game’s availability on previous generation consoles.
GTA 6 will be the next installment of RGT franchise, and will no doubt be more ambitious than ever. Rockstar hasn’t even announced the game, let alone set a release date. A reliable leak says, however, that the game won’t be released until at least 2024.
The release date may influence Rockstar’s decision regarding the choice of platform. However, the current generation consoles: Xbox Series X/S and PS5, are still rare in the market.
GTA 6: Will the next GTA game be released on previous generation consoles?

When GTA 5 released in 2013, everyone expected it to be exclusive to PS4 and Xbox One. However, Rockstar released the game on PS3 and Xbox 360, which were the previous generation consoles at the time. This led many to believe that GTA 6 will debut on PS4 and Xbox One.
However, this is the moment that many are hoping to launch before 2021. At the moment, such a scenario seems highly unlikely. With global lockdowns, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are facing serious supply shortages. Scalping also greatly improves the situation.
Most of the gamers haven’t even gotten their hands on a new console and are stuck on the previous console. If GTA 6 launches today, it will probably launch on previous generation consoles.
But most GTA fans have agreed that it won’t be happening anytime soon, at least not until 2024. This saves enough time for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to become more mainstream. It’s unrealistic to expect the game to be released on PS4 and Xbox One if that happens.

Rockstar’s last major project was Red Dead Redemption 2. It was way ahead of GTA 5 in every aspect, be it graphics, gameplay or environment. The game is still pretty tiring for PS4 and Xbox One, and for good reason, it’s had a slight frame drop.
If Rockstar launches GTA 6 in 2024, it will be a gap of 6 years between their last games. If they can come up with RDR 2 after a 5 year gap, it’s reasonable to expect the next game to be more demanding. Titles like that might be hard to get right on previous generation consoles.
Therefore, the release of GTA 6 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is very unlikely.
