Tonight at 8:15 pm “Fack ju Göhte 3” will be shown on ProSieben. But is that really the end of the hugely successful comedy series? A statement by director Bora DAGENKIN gives fans hope for a sequel …
- “Fack ju Göhte” recorded 7.4 million visitors in 2013 = number 1 in the German annual charts!
- “Fack ju Göhte 2” even managed 7.7 million visitors in 2015 and thus place 2 in the annual charts behind “Star Wars 7”!
- “Fack ju Göhte 3” then attracted “only” 6.1 million moviegoers in 2017, but landed again on the top position of the annual charts!
It’s hard to believe that after three such mega hits it should actually be over. (In the seventies, with such a number of visitors, sequels would have been filmed every year until the doctor comes – see “Popsicle” & Co.)
In the past three years, however, it has remained so calm that one almost has to assume: Yes, there is actually nothing more! Especially since director Bora Dagtkin and his star Elyas M’Barek continue to celebrate great successes outside of the “Fack ju Göhte” series – most recently together with “The Perfect Secret”, the most successful German film in 2019.
This statement from the director stirs hope
But there is a sentence by Bora Drachtkin from the press booklet on “Fack ju Göhte 3”, who doesn’t let the hope of more jokes from the Goehte comprehensive school finally die:
After “Fack ju Göhte 2”, Bora Drachtkin had said that the franchise was over for him – a statement with, as is well known, hardly any shelf life worth mentioning, after all, “Fack ju Göhte 3” was released only two years later.
After “Fack ju Göhte 3”, however, he stated that he “would not rule out one hundred percent that the franchise will at some point, in any form, continue to live”. So he himself has become more cautious – because it is not that easy, both because of the wishes of the fans and the lure of money, to simply leave such a successful franchise lying around for a long time.
Even an extension of the “Fack ju Göhte” series does not necessarily mean that a “Fack ju Göhte 4” will be released in the cinemas. A prequel, a spin-off, a reboot or even an offshoot as a TV sitcom would be just as conceivable (who still remembers the “Police Academy” live TV series?) …
