Will emergency ordinance end fireworks nuisance Roosendaal? | Inland

Hundreds of young people gather in a number of neighborhoods in the evening to set off heavy fireworks, start fires and commit vandalism. The now announced emergency ordinance applies to the Kalsdonk, Kroeven, Langdonk and Westrand neighborhoods in Roosendaal.

A council spokesperson says: “The emergency ordinance is designed to keep those who have no business in those neighborhoods and also includes a ban on carrying fireworks as well as objects that can be used as weapons. Anyone who has no business in the relevant neighborhoods is not allowed to come there. ”

Arrests Wednesday

Several people were arrested in Roosendaal on Wednesday evening for violating the stricter rules that apply on the street in connection with fireworks nuisance.

One of the detainees had a knife in his pocket, six did not adhere to the current ban on gathering, another had drugs with him and one could not identify himself. The people arrested for the ban on assembly were detained in the vicinity of the Evelindeflat and the Saskiadonk, the police reported. That is in the Langdonk district.

The man with the knife resisted his arrest. Police also held a number of conversations on Wednesday with people who had posted inflammatory messages on social media. “The purpose of the conversations is to make it known that we know who is behind the accounts and to make it clear that we as the police do not tolerate this,” said the police.

Withdrawal prohibition

Basically, people who, according to the population records, do not live in Kalsdonk, Kroeven, Langdonk and Westrand are not allowed to stay there, with the exception of people who can prove that they are working or attending education in the relevant neighborhoods or by public transport travel neighborhoods.

The prohibition on the possession of fireworks applies to publicly accessible places. “It is also prohibited to carry objects that can be used as weapons without a reasonable purpose. This includes fireworks, Molotov cocktails, glassware, stones, sticks and chains. ”

Imprisonment or a fine of thousands of euros

The regulation is currently valid until December 9. Offenders must take into account a prison sentence of no more than three months or a fine of no more than € 4,350.

After the introduction of the national fireworks ban during New Year’s Eve, the number of complaints about fireworks nuisance has increased sharply. This is not only a Roosendaal problem, but also occurs elsewhere in the country, such as in Arnhem, for example.

‘Enough is enough!’

Monday evening mayor Van Midden himself already took a look in the Langdonk district. He was shocked by what he found there: “Those were non-Dutch scenes. I now say: the measure is full! In recent days, the police have moved in and de-escalated. But that didn’t work well enough. Now I am forced to take a number of serious measures to restore peace and public order in Roosendaal. ”

A ban on gathering together had already been in force in the Brabant city from Tuesday evening, but that did not have the desired effect: also on Tuesday evening and night the weather was very restless in, among other things, the Langdonk district where fires were set, fireworks bombs were set off and youth riot cat and mouse game played with the police and firefighters were pelted. The emergency ordinance must now put an end to that situation.
