Favorites Maria Sur and Liamoo go directly to the final in Melodifestivalen. But during the celebration, Maria Sur misses her father – who remains in wartime Ukraine.
– I will call him immediately after the press conference, she says.
Maria Sur and Liamoo advance to the finals from Melodifestivalen’s second competition in Scandinavium in Gothenburg.
In a division filled with debutants, it was the evening’s only veterans who took the rub. Liamoo with the fiery contribution “Dragon” and Maria Sur with the pop song “When I’m gone” go directly to the final after the partial competition in Gothenburg.
Maria Sur repeats the feat from last year – when she had recently fled the war in Ukraine and came to Sweden.
– I think I will understand everything tomorrow, today there is so much. I am very grateful, says Maria Sur to TT.
Maria Sur went to the final in Melodifestivalen with the contribution “When I’m gone”.
Historic
At 19 years old, she is this year’s youngest participant. She also makes history as the first foreign artist to go directly to the final of the Melodifestivalen twice.

Now the exuberantly happy artist will celebrate with her team, and her mother who fled with her to Sweden. However, the father is still in Ukraine and has received a video link to be able to follow his daughter’s competition in Melodifestivalen remotely.
– We talked yesterday and the day before. He asked how I was and said ‘just enjoy it’, because he knows that sometimes I can have high expectations and get so focused on the win, says Maria Sur.
Liamoo took a direct place to the Melodifestivalen final.
Liamoo: “Absolutely insane”
Even favorite tipped Liamoo kept up the pressure. The 26-year-old has participated in the competition four times before – and has claimed a final place just as many times.
– It’s absolutely insane that you can do it four times, he says.
He also suffered the biggest mishap of the evening, when the flame that was meant to strike his hand during the contribution never caught fire. But the artist still smiled widely at the cameras when the number was over.
– I moved a little too quickly. So now I know for next time, says Liamoo.
The two-year-old daughter who was in Scandinavium cheering on her father will sleep with her grandmother – and Liamoo will take the opportunity to celebrate the win.
– I’m going to hug my entire team to begin with. Then the rest is history, he says.

Not disappointed
The Sami artist Dear Sara and the epadunk queen Fröken Snusk will qualify for the final in the last part of the competition.
Despite the fact that Ms. Snusk did not progress directly to the final, she is not disappointed.
– It feels good that you have done it and that you were satisfied with it, it could have been a thousand times worse, she says.
