UK to execute International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuif he comes to the country. This was announced by the British Foreign Secretary David Lemmyhis words are quoted by the agency Reuters.
The head of British diplomacy said he would continue conversations and meetings with Netanyahu after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for his alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, he added that London would comply with the demand to arrest the Israeli prime minister if he entered Britain, insisting that it “cannot ignore the order.”
Lemmy said he was “obligated” under British law to refer the warrant request to a national court.
“This does not give me any choice. I will extradite him, take him to court. Then the court will make its decision,” added the head of the British Foreign Office.
But Lemmy said he would continue to talk to Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials about issues such as seeking a ceasefire and the importance of getting aid into the Palestinian territory.
“I believe that these are important issues that require the participation of those of us in government. I do not see any circumstances under which I would not communicate with elected representatives of the Israeli government,” the British Foreign Secretary added.
