Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – TikTok management has asked the United States (US) legal institution to sue President Donald Trump’s administration for imposing a ban on downloading the TikTok app.
The request was revealed in a court document filed last Friday, as quoted by Reuters, Sunday (20/09/2020).
TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance Ltd, filed a lawsuit in Washington Federal court against President Trump’s ban.
This weekend, the US Department of Commerce announced a ban on the Trump administration from downloading two applications made by Chinese companies, WeChat and TikTok starting today, Sunday (20/09/2020).
The ban is considered political reasons, according to TikTok and ByteDance in their alleged lawsuit in court. TikTok also said the ban violated the company’s amendment rights.
President Trump, who has been embroiled in a trade war dispute with China, issued an executive order on August 6 to ban any transactions with WeChat and TikTok.
ByteDance and TikTok are currently working to discuss and temporarily lift Trump’s ban and order, according to the lawsuit.
Until this news was published by Reuters, the White House has not commented on this matter.
TikTok, which has more than 100 million users in the United States, said the ban would permanently destroy the company’s business in Uncle Sam’s country.
