The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus present in Morocco, France and other countries of the world has decided to cut “approximately 15,000 jobs” by 2021. Will its Moroccan employees be affected by this wave of layoffs?

These announced job cuts represent 11% of Airbus staff worldwide, and reflect the manufacturer’s desire to “resize its activity in commercial aviation” in these times of covid-19, the group said in a communicated. In detail, Airbus intends to cut approximately 5,100 positions in Germany, 5,000 in France, 1,700 in the United Kingdom, 900 in Spain and 1,300 at the group’s other sites around the world. Including certainly in Morocco where the group is present.

“Although forced measures cannot be excluded at this stage, Airbus will work with its social partners to limit the impact of this plan by relying on all available social measures, including voluntary departures, early retirement measures , as well as long-term partial unemployment for the activities which lend themselves to it “, affirmed the manufacturer.

The airline market is “facing the most serious crisis the industry has ever known,” said Guillaume Faury, Executive Chairman of Airbus. “The measures taken so far by the company have allowed us to absorb the initial shock of this pandemic. We must now ensure the sustainability of the company and guarantee our ability to emerge from the crisis as a global leader in the aerospace sector, while adapting to the immense challenges our customers face, “he said.

“No forced departure of group employees can be considered,” says the CGE-CGC union.
