Wildfires hit New Jersey and New York air quality

JAKARTA – A wildfire hit northern New Jersey, United States, Saturday, November 9 local time.

The US border state of New York has been hit by wildfires as a result of ongoing drought in the region due to the dry season.

Officials have issued early warnings that heavy fire smoke could affect air quality in northern New Jersey, New York, the Hudson Valley, through the morning of Monday, November 11.

“The New Jersey Forest Fire Department typically put out more than 400 fires last month,” said Bill Donnelly, chief of the New Jersey Forest Fire Department, as reported by CBN News on Sunday (November 10).

Fire officials said that for just two days since Friday, September 8, there have been up to 40 fires in northern New Jersey.

Donnelly is hoping for some rain to clear up any bad weather that might clear up.

“It depends on ‘mother nature’. When it rains, we’ll take a break, but until we see it, I don’t see anything happening,” Donnelly said.

Donnelly said not much water was needed to keep the ground moist to prevent the fire from starting.

“We’re not talking about heavy rain or anything like that. We are talking about small water. You know, gentle, slow, steady water can seep into the ground. Because the ground is currently very hard if there is heavy rain or any kind of rain, the water will run off the ground,” he said.
