Wildfires Devastate Inland Empire, Raising Concerns for Fire Season

Multiple wild fires are currently burning in the Inland Empire, sparking concern for the upcoming fire season. The Riverside County Fire Department responded to a vegetation brush fire called the Juniper Fire in unincorporated Perris. The fire started near the 19000 block of Santa Rosa Mine Road and quickly grew to 55 acres by 5:40 p.m. It is currently 5% contained, according to Cal Fire crews at the scene. Santa Rosa Mine Road and Idaleona are closed due to the fire.

At least one structure is in flames and others are threatened, as reported by Cal Fire. Initially, evacuation orders were issued for residents in the surrounding area, but they have since been downgraded to warnings. Warnings remain for residents living south of Santa Rosa Mine Road, east of El Baquero Road, west of Maywood Club Road, and north of Blue Sky Road.

A care and reception center for evacuees has been set up at Pinacate Middle School in Perris. Aircraft are responding to the fire, and a total of 99 firefighters and a dozen aircraft have been dispatched to the scene.

This is one of two major fires reported in the Inland Empire on Tuesday. Another fire is burning vegetation in Mentone and has reached 90 acres.
