Wilders, Timmermans, Yeşilgöz and Jetten visited a scout today

Later in the day, Frans Timmermans (GroenLinks-PvdA), VVD leader Dilan Yeşilgöz and Rob Jetten of D66 will follow. Pieter Omtzigt from NSC could not be there today for ‘agenda technical reasons’, so he will come by tomorrow.

Formation

In the coming days, Van Strien will speak with all party chairmen from the House of Representatives during the exploratory phase of the formation, to see what the chairmen’s preferences are. The scout is expected to report back in about a week.

This is followed by negotiations in the information phase, and informants will sit down with the parties. Finally, the formation phase will take place.

If everything goes according to plan, the old House of Representatives will say goodbye to the House on December 5, and the new House of Representatives will take office on December 6.

VVD not in coalition

Last week, Yeşilgöz indicated that he did not want to enter into a coalition with the PVV, but did want to become a tolerating partner. This has led to criticism within the VVD. Wilders was not happy with this and Omtzigt also called the VVD’s step ‘special’.

Van Strien was appointed as a scout last week. He has been a member of the Senate for the PVV since 2011. He was discredited yesterday by reports from NRC that the senator is accused of fraud. He denies the allegations.
