This exciting development is set to redefine luxury safari in uncharted territory, providing discerning travelers with an unforgettable experience. In this article, we delve into the details of this new venture and explore the opportunities it presents for those looking to experience the ultimate safari.
Luxury safari leader Wilderness has announced the opening of a new camp in Botswana’s Mababe Concession, which will be the company’s only property in the area. The Wilderness Mokete tented camp will be situated in the midst of the 124,000-acre concession, a remote and untouched wilderness that attracts wildlife because of the nutrient-rich waters of the Okavango Delta. Guests can enjoy game drives all day without worrying about nosy neighbours since Mokete is the only property in the concession. The nine tents are designed to make guests feel connected to nature, with retractable roofs, allowing star gazing at night, and wooden walkways leading to communal areas including a swimming pool, tented lounge and a sunken hide. Wilderness Mokete tented camp will operate for two years while Wilderness Meraka is being planned and build.
Kim Nixon, Wilderness Botswana MD, describes the Mababe Concession as a wildlife wonderland, where large herds of buffalo, the most significant in Africa, thrive alongside predators and elephants. The location is unique, where the Okavango waters meet the inviting grass plains, making it an animal magnet. The camp will offer various activities, including hot air balloon ride after 2024, where guests will have a unique and less invasive experience with the animals. In addition, it will provide cultural experiences with the local community.
Hadley Allen, Wilderness COO, said the camp’s design aims to provide guests with a feeling of complete immersion in the surrounding landscape, with panoramic views of the wilderness, and a range of activities. Due to the spectacular location, Wilderness plans to create Wilderness Meraka, a permanent camp, to replace Mokete. According to Allen, the building will involve careful planning and take a long time, which is why the company decided on creating a limited addition camp.
Tented accommodation at Mokete is luxurious, and guests can expect a memorable wildlife experience, with rates starting at $1,320 per person. Since the launch of the camp, bookings have been brisk, indicating strong interest from visitors. As Africa’s only continent offering safaris, Botswana remains a popular destination, providing opportunities for travellers to get up close and personal with big game. With the opening of the Wilderness Mokete tented camp, visitors can expect a unique, exclusive, and uncompromising experience of the African wilderness.
