Wilddogs are runners-up: U15 flag footballers only lose finals

Pforzheim. What a season for the Wilddogs U15 flag youth. In the 7 on 7 tournament mode, coach Frank Zimmermann’s team traveled undefeated to the final day in Grünwettersbach with the Badener Greifs. Unfortunately, it was the one game that ended up costing us the championship title.

The first two opponents started on April 9th, the Stuttgart Silver Arrows and the Heilbronn Miners. Svenja Schmid and Luca Wagner secured the points for the 14:6 win against the Silver Arrows. The Wilddog Defense didn’t allow any points against the Heilbronn Miners and Luca Wagner and Maximilian Pater scored the points to make it 20:0.

The two teams were also opponents on the second day of play in Heilbronn. The first game against the Miners went to the Wilddogs with 14:6. It took a little while against Stuttgart, only Calvin Greer and Rafael Scheiwe scored the points in the second half and made it 12-0 in the end. On the last day of the tournament on May 22, the Wilddogs made it through to the final with a 28:0 win against the Heilbronn Miners and a 35:6 win against the Stuttgart Silver Arrows.

The participating teams of the final tournament were also the other group winners Biberach Beavers and Badener Greifs. The Heilbronn Salt Miners also moved up. The first opponents were the Heilbronn Miners. In an exciting game, Luca Wagner secured the 19:14 with his points.

Already with their second drive, the host managed to score and win the title with an 8:0 lead.

“Of course it’s bitter when you lose a final 8-0. Especially if the opponent is only once in front of your own end zone and you are denied two touchdowns. But we’re number two in Baden-Württemberg, which is a great achievement,” said head coach Frank Zimmermann.
