“Wildberries E-commerce Under Fire for Employee Strip Searches, Owned by Russia’s First Female Billionaire”

Enterprise e-commerce Wildberries which is referred to as Amazon or EbayRussia is the subject of discussion. The reason is, a viral video shows female workers being forced to remove their clothes when entering the office, then being examined by female officers.

The video shows employees stripping, leaving only their underwear, before being forced to line up to enter the security post. The workers then prepared to enter the Wildberries office.

Launch NY PostAccording to Russian media reports, the checks were reportedly carried out to prevent employees from bringing cellphones or watches into the workplace. This is also done as a ‘avoid theft’ measure.


As it turned out, not only women, male employees also experienced this embarrassing search. However, the viral video only shows female workers.

“The worker, under the surveillance of the video camera, undressed and went to the check point,” said a report.

Wildberries employs around 32,000 workers across Russia and the former Soviet Union. This company is owned by Tatiana Bakalchuk, a 47-year-old businessman who is considered the first self-made female billionaire in Russia.

According to some information, Bakalchuk is estimated to have a net worth of USD 13.3 billion or more than IDR 198 trillion in 2021.

Last month, Russian media reported that workers at the company staged a protest in response to a new company policy, which makes them responsible for any item returned because it was damaged or because it was sent to the wrong address.
