“Wild Protesters in Lyon Take to the Streets Against Macron’s Pension Reform”

“Macron does not listen to us? We will not listen to it either, ”warned the independent media Lyon Insurrection on social networks.

At the call of Attac Rhône, around 150 people gathered peacefully in front of the town hall (Lyon 1st) this Monday evening for a new casserole. Another appointment is given at the same time in front of the town hall of Villeurbanne.

Some 200 people in a wild demonstration

Around 10 p.m., around 200 people formed a wild procession towards the slopes of Croix-Rousse. According to the Prefecture, a few incidents took place and the police used tear gas. Protesters then broke into small groups. At this time, no arrests have been made.

Macron “assumes” the pension reform

This Monday, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, was the guest of the 8 p.m. newspaper on TF1. The Head of State reaffirmed that the pension reform was “necessary to guarantee the balance of our accounts and the future of our children”.

During this interview, he announced “2 billion tax cuts” on the “middle classes” by 2027. Other topics covered: the war in Ukraine and purchasing power.

On May 8, commemoration day, Emmanuel Macron surrendered at the Montluc Prison Memorial to pay tribute to the Resistance fighter Jean Moulin. A tense visit marked by a rally, first banned by the prefecture and then authorized by the courts, in which 3,000 people took part according to the prefecture (5,000 according to the CGT).
