Jembrana – Three residents in Banjar Pangkung Tanah Kauh, Melaya Village, Melaya District, Jembrana, Bali, were bitten by wild dogs on Saturday (9/9/2023). One of the victims, a 5 year old boy, was bitten in the neck.
Head of Animal Welfare and Veterinary Affairs, Jembrana Agriculture and Food Service, I Wayan Widarsa, said the dog that bit was a stray dog. The dog suddenly bit three residents, including two children aged 4 and 5 years.
“This wild dog suddenly bit a resident, then bit two other residents, including two children under 10 years old,” said Widarsa to detikBaliTuesday (12/9/2023).
Widarsa explained that after receiving the report, his party immediately took samples of the dog’s brain for testing at the Denpasar Center for Veterinary Laboratory (BBVet). The dog’s brain sample was sent on Tuesday (12/9/2023).
“We sent the dog’s brain sample this morning to BBVet Denpasar for testing. We are still waiting for the results to carry out emergency vaccinations in the bite case area,” said Widarsa.
Meanwhile, continued Widarsa, the three victims of stray dog bites had received the VAR vaccine at the nearest health center. However, one of the victims, a 5 year old boy, suffered a bite to the inside of the neck and was in the high risk category.
“All the victims have received the anti-rabies vaccine (VAR). One of the victims suffered a bite to the inside of the neck,” said Widarsa.
Widarsa appealed to the public to always be wary of stray dogs. He also asked the public to immediately report to the relevant agencies if they find suspicious stray dogs.
“We hope that the public will always be alert to suspicious stray dogs, and immediately go to a health facility if they are bitten by a dog, especially a stray dog,” said Widarsa.
