When the police carried out an alcohol check on the Mechelen ring last night, they noticed a car that was moving quickly in the other direction of travel. The police wanted to check the driver of that car and gave chase.
However, the 24-year-old driver did not pull over and fled at high speed on Battelsesteenweg. Then he took the E19 in the direction of Antwerp. The police continued to chase the driver. Speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour were achieved. In Wilrijk, near Antwerp, the getaway car took the exit, but things went wrong there.
